About Yvo
Yvo Mentens holds two master’s degrees, in criminology and sociology, and has trained in the person-centred approach (Client-Centered Therapy). He is also certified in Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and has studied Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET) with Mark A. Lumley and Howard Schubiner.
Originally from Belgium, Yvo trained in the Feldenkrais Method under the guidance of Myriam Pfeffer. A certified Feldenkrais trainer and co-founder of Feldenkrais Education, he teaches in professional Feldenkrais training programmes in Europe, Asia and the United States. He has also been an active member of the European Feldenkrais Organisation (ETC) and vice-president of the International Feldenkrais Federation (IFF).
His professional work has taken him into a wide range of settings: prisons, dojos, theatre, creative think tanks, therapeutic settings, professional training programmes and private practice.
Alongside his work as a Feldenkrais trainer, Yvo has created and directed numerous theatre productions. He has also taught physical theatre and the Feldenkrais Method at several higher education institutions and arts organisations, including the Conservatoire national supérieur d’art dramatique in Paris, the Stanislavski Conservatory in Moscow and Dibrugarh University in India.
He develops a creative, integrative approach to teaching, with careful attention to the quality and safety of the learning environment. His teaching encourages exploration, autonomy and the development of each participant’s individual abilities.
